Dual Boiler Espresso Machines Compared: BES920, Elizabeth and Bianca

Three documented dual boilers, compared only on what their manufacturers publish: what each includes, how each is operated, and what you still have to confirm with a seller before you buy.

What a dual boiler is, and what it is not

Compare the Breville Dual Boiler BES920 for button-based dosing, Lelit Elizabeth PL92T for programmable brewing and pre-infusion, and Lelit Bianca for its manual flow-control paddle. A dual boiler separates brew and steam heating, allowing simultaneous use; actual temperature stability, warm-up and steam recovery still depend on the machine and conditions.

Two other machine types get sold as if they were the same thing. A heat exchanger brews and steams at once, but both jobs run off one boiler, so brew temperature depends on your flushing routine. Thermoblock and ThermoJet describe on-demand heating architectures; whether a particular machine can brew and steam together depends on its design. Neither is a dual boiler: "dual" means two boilers, not two heaters or two modes.

[Breville Dual Boiler BES920](https://www.breville.com/en-us/product/bes920). Breville lists it at $1,599.95 and, when checked, showed it out of stock with a notify option, so availability is worth confirming alongside price. Breville describes a PID-controlled espresso boiler, a separate steam boiler, a heated group head, low-pressure pre-infusion followed by 9 bar extraction from a 15 bar pump, and "volumetric or timed shot control" with a manual option. Published dimensions are 37.9 x 40.3 x 37.1 cm; tank capacity, weight and any plumbing connection are not stated. Included: a 58 mm portafilter and Razor dosing tool, single- and dual-wall baskets, an integrated tamper, a 16 oz milk jug, a cleaning kit, a water hardness test strip, and a water filter holder with filter. No grinder, and no manual flow-control paddle is described in the cited listing.

[Lelit Elizabeth PL92T](https://www.lelit.com/en-us/product/pesel01). Lelit's US site lists Elizabeth at $1,799.95. That listing gives almost no numbers, but Lelit's global PL92T page documents a 300 ml brass coffee boiler and a 600 ml AISI316L steam and hot-water boiler, a 2.5 l tank, the LELIT58 group, and LCC electronic control with an OLED display, programmable pre-infusion and the option to switch the steam boiler off. The global PL92T specification lists 32 x 38 x 38 cm and 15.3 kg; confirm the exact regional SKU and clearance with the seller. Supplied items include LELIT58 filter holders, IMS baskets, a blind filter, a tamper and a 35 l water softener filter. No grinder, no flow-control paddle, and no plumbed supply is described.

[Lelit Bianca](https://www.lelit.com/en-us/product/bianca-pesbn03). The US Bianca page lists $2,999.95 with the L58E group and "manual control of the water flow" — a paddle the operator moves, not a preset. The US page states no boiler volumes, tank size or dimensions. The global PL162T page documents an 800 ml AISI316L coffee boiler and a 1.5 l AISI316L steam boiler, a movable 2.5 l tank, 29 x 58.5 x 39 cm plus 8 cm for the tank, 27.2 kg, and LCC control with pre-infusion and steam-boiler disable. That page also lists "water supply and direct discharge" among its features, while the US page describes no plumbing at all, so treat a plumbed install as unconfirmed until a seller puts it in writing.

Which dual boiler fits your routine?

Prefer buttons and a bounded purchase price. Start by comparing BES920 and Elizabeth: their documented dosing/control interfaces are more relevant than a paddle you do not intend to use. All three need a separate espresso grinder. A dual boiler alone does not establish how many drinks a machine can make within your morning schedule.

Want to adjust flow during extraction. Bianca is the candidate here with a documented manual paddle. That extra control is a reason to consider it if you will use it; it is not evidence that it automatically produces a better cup.

Rarely steam milk. Decide whether independent steam heating is worth its cost and space for your routine. Compare a simpler setup in our beginner espresso-machine shortlist, while retaining any other control features you actually require.

Compare space and water supply. Obtain an installation drawing for the exact US SKU, with tank filling/removal and overhead clearance. Global dimensions and different tank positions are useful questions for a seller, not proof that a regional machine will fit. Boiler volume alone does not establish steam recovery speed; ask for the conditions behind any performance claim.

Breville owners chasing a pressure reading. Boiler count is a separate question from pressure behaviour; our note on Breville pressure running too high covers that.

What you still have to price locally

No maintenance total is quoted here, because none of the three manufacturers publishes one. Maintenance procedures and costs depend on the exact design, water requirements, condition and local service availability. Do not transfer a descaling procedure between machines. Get numbers from a local service provider rather than a spec sheet: their labour rate, whether they stock wear parts for that exact model, and whether they descale on site or want the machine dropped off.

Prices are US manufacturer listings checked on 16 October 2026, before any sales tax, delivery or bundle adjustments; availability and promotions can change. Global technical pages are model references, and exact regional specifications still need seller confirmation. An unanswered checklist item is a reason to seek a written quote before ordering.
